How Miss 5 & 9 Mastered times tables in 3 months!

Reciting random times tables with ease and fun!

Here’s how miss 5 (& 9) mastered their multiplication tables 👇🏽

In just a couple of months after starting to use musical multiplication ~ I quizzed her for fun (lightheartedly).

This was the 2nd quiz and I decided to record it. She clearly didn’t mind. See any stress?

Neither do I! The girls (9 & 5) have enjoyed listening to them and now know them up to their 12s. After just several months!

I’m sharing because I know I would have loved to know about this sooner! So if you want to give your child/ children a leg up with times tables…

I highly recommend using The Good and the Beautiful Musical Multiplication as a fun way to help your children learn a highly useful life skill!

Want to know what inspired this?

I’ve been “geeking out” recently on all things “how the brain and especially memory work”.

That was instigated by our little group of friends ~ who catch up almost very much like a book club which eventually began Poetry tea times (learn more about those from The Brave Learner or The Well Trained Mind).

So… we started finding beautiful worthy poetry to learn and recite together. From there, a chat spurred me on to learn more about reciting!

Suddenly I was on a mission to learn more about this powerful (life skill) tool called memory! And there a little voice within said… I can apply this to the times tables!

So I went straight for the toughest! The 7s! And within an HOUR I had “taught” them to our then 8 year old! An hour!

How?

Through STORY!

Hear me out… I literally sat down with her and spoke about all 7s as special numbers and why. A bit “Hippy“ yeah… but it worked! It helped that her birthday includes the first three 7 denominators, I will say…

But the moon has a 28 day cycle (4×7) and that was the easiest next association.

The next was the clock… again ~ so far it’s ALL “time related!” Next was again… time related: a new mother generally (not me 😆) goes for a 6 week postpartum health check after “42” days at home recovering.

Notice these are ALL story based? It went on from there. And that’s when I realised… this memory thing is actually FUN!

So… I whipped out the Musical Multiplication file on my phone (that ide invested in) and began playing the songs with absolute joy!

They literally ARE beautiful! That’s why we love them! Numbers can be so abstract on their own (I used to get sleepy in maths class!)… so giving them imagery is something I’ve found so useful for the girls!

Anyway… I just wanted to share that, in case you are that someone out there, like I was… who felt tines tables a worthy investment of “time”.

I mean, after all… there are many other things we could pass time with that bay not serve us so we’ll ~ so we’ll may as well invest some time in improving our life skills right?
