I don’t know who needs to hear any of this but I just thought it might be nice to ramble on to reveal what goes on inside the mind and life of a random homeschooling Mum. You never know!
Yesterday my other half invested in a new audio system for our new clinic, which led us to discover an App called Alexa, which is essentially an amazon audible platform. Why am I so excited about this? Well, we discovered that every “I book” I have ever purchased can be listened to in order to make “reading” easier (for me)!
So, all morning I have been listening to the Montessori Method and Curious Unschoolers while the children play with their doll’s house. Another unexpected evolution lately is our falling in love with Children’s Classics! Over the years, we as a family have grown to really love all things “Old World”. So, naturally we have discovered a few “classics” such as Heidi along with many fairy tales.
I was lucky this last week to find a collection of children’s classics books in our local second hand book shop for just $20. The next day, we were meant to have a playdate but the children were under the weather so we couldn’t. I sent my friend who we were meant to see a message with a photo sharing the great find.
As if it were a wink from the heavens, she sent me back a photo of 2 books in THAT VERY collection that were missing from my set! She was in her local op shop and picked them up for me for $3 each!
I was blown away! Especially since during our last playdate, we were saying how refreshing it was to simply talk about good books and incredibly we were both reading the same classic book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
From these old stories, I am reminded of how far the world has come. It gives a strong sense of gratitude for all that we have, that’s for sure. And with all there is in the world to feel frustrated about… gratitude is a welcome shift of consciousness, for sure!
So… I wanted to share a little win we have been having as a result of all of this old world focus on tradition. The children have been helping a lot more! And… it’s instilled such a change in the house! What really triggered this was the reminder I recently had around how much more the children tend to enjoy their meals when they’re involved in making them!
The two chores they have been responsible for is setting and clearing the table (which includes dishes). I have always been the one responsible for this chore, but giving this to the girls helps us all have more time together once everything is done! I can get on top of everything else and the end result is more time together! Who doesn’t want that right?
